with it on a gut level were two different things. “I was trying to be
civilized.”
“Forget civilized,” Beau growled. “It’s been six weeks since we’ve
made love, and that’s six weeks too long.”
There was that, Jacob thought, his body flushing at the tone of
Beau’s voice. He could feel his students’ sticky hands, though, added to
the inevitable feeling of grunginess that came from traveling. Before they
did anything else, he needed a shower.
Dealing with the hotelier forestalled the conversation long enough
for him to show them upstairs. The walls of their room matched the
siding, a beautiful lemon yellow that made Jacob think of sunny days
and warm sand. The blue china plates on the walls and the matching
comforter and pillows completed the ambiance of French country charm.
It would be a perfect hideaway for the weekend.
When they were alone again, the door safely locked behind the
departing innkeeper, Jacob toed off his shoes and turned to Beau. “We
should get some dinner, and I don’t know about you, but I need a shower
before we do anything else.”
Beau hid his disappointment. They had all weekend. They didn’t
have to make love the minute they walked in the door. “If that’s what
you want, baby,” he said. “Let me take a quick shower, then you can, and
then we can find something to eat. Just promise me you’ll let me make
love to you when we get back.”
“I promise,” Jacob said, grateful for Beau’s understanding. “It’s not
that I don’t want to make love now, but I’m tired and grimy and hungry
and—”
“And you’ll be more relaxed and more in the mood later,” Beau
finished. “I understand completely. Get unpacked and settled in while I
take a shower. That’ll help too. It’s been a hard few weeks for you.”
Beau grabbed his toiletries bag from his suitcase and disappeared
into the bathroom. A few seconds later, Jacob heard the water start. He
forced himself to do as Beau suggested, opening his bag and hanging up
his clothes rather than sitting on the bed and fantasizing about Beau in
the shower. It had been a hard few weeks, with the strain of the divorce
and keeping up appearances at school and not being able to see Beau
except for their Autism Society planning meetings and the one truncated
visit on his way home from Vicksburg. He wanted them to have a life as
a couple, and the past six weeks hadn’t facilitated that at all, even less
